A while back I was watching either the Discovery or the History channel, it doesn't really matter which but the show was on some new theories about the demise of the dinosaurs. Apparently there's a new school of thought that says one giant asteroid couldn't have wiped them out; there's too much evidence of numerous giant asteroid strikes and evidence as well that the 'sudden' extinction of all those species actually took millions of years.
And then of course, there's the small problem of the alligators. How did they survive while everything else perished?
I was thinking of that while running today and my mind skipped on to some other things I've read about lately. Like Demographics, homosexual marriage and global warming and it all coalesced into this; What if the dinosaurs vanished because they simply chose to stop breeding?
What if the alligator, shark and
coelecanth still exist simply because they chose to procreate?
For the last forty years, the industrialized nations have rejoiced in the ability to enjoy sex without the ramifications of human production and where has it gotten us? In less than two generations, entire ethnicities are on the brink of extinction. If things don't change drastically, by the turn of the next century, ethnic Italians, Germans and Spaniards are going to be a thing of the past.
Are mass extinctions a matter of choice? Say what you will, the fact of the matter is that the future does, indeed belong to those who show up.
A thousand years in the future, in a schoolroom populated by super smart Muslims, might the teacher be explaining to the students that the Liberal Humanist became extinct purely as a matter of natural selection?
"They were able to disconnect sex and procreation and they felt that this was a good thing. This lead them to believe that they were like Allah, praise be to Him, and that the power of life and death was theirs. From there it was a small step to the belief that they could control the very behavior of the planet and they came up with more and more reasons to limit themselves and their works until, in the blink of an eye, they were gone; vanished from the face of the Earth. Allah, praise be to Him, in His infinite wisdom, did nothing to correct them but simply let their own beliefs and behaviors cause they and their evil fruit to whither from the vine of humanity. Today we only know that they existed from the traces of their videos found on youtube."
"My brother says Liberal Humanists weren't real! They're just a story someone made up to scare us to behave!" chirps Yusef.
"Oh, they were real," smiles the teacher. "For one black moment in history, they were as real as you and I. Now, this weeks homework; go kill some Mormons."
"Aw, that's the same as last week's homework!" the kids object.
"No, no!" laughs the teacher. "I meant go kill some
different Mormons!"
