26!

Yesterday was our 26th wedding anniversary.
I can hardly believe it's been so long. Seems like yesterday, yet at the same time it seems like we've been married since the beginning of time. Seems like the natural order of things, I guess.
It was hot. Hot hot hot.
Jay had to work or play golf or something, so was gone when I awoke. I had to turn on the air conditioning around ten. It was hot. I worked all morning and dropped off orders around noon so that we could go swimming. Everyone was at the pool. MJ was sporting her new bikini, so as to get some color on her midsection before heading to Vegas for her elopement. Caylie came along and impressed the crowd with her backflips off the board.
Apparently it rained at home while we were frolicking in the pool seven miles away. When we returned home, it was still ridiculously hot but everything was wet, including the screens on the windows. Nice of Mother Nature to water the lawn while I'm out.
Zack cooked us dinner. No asking, he just announced that he was making pasta and he'd give me a grocery list. So, I went to the store and then he made us an absolutely delicious penne in alfredo sauce with andouille sausage. There wasn't a drop of it left by the time Jay got home, so while we split a bottle of champagne on the front lawn, watching the sunset over the kickball games, Zack fired up the grill and cooked some ribs for his Dad. The kid has inherited his father's cooking ability. No recipes, although Zack can follow one (Jay doesn't believe in them). Both have the knack for just throwing together whatever we have or whatever sounds good and making it taste fabulous.
I had too much champagne. When I awoke this morning, I didn't have a headache, but my body felt as though it had been turned to stone. I just couldn't move. A pot of coffee has made vast improvements on the motor system but my head keeps turning towards bed like a compass pointing north.
None of that! The heat has broken, the sky is clear and I refuse to waste a moment of what looks like the perfect summer day asleep! Well, maybe in a few hours I'll try the hammock for a while. A hammock in summer is perfectly acceptable. Not bed.
Time to go face the day.
