I bought The Buddy Holly Story and La Bamba today at Sam's Club.  They had both movies together for 12 bucks.  I haven't seen the BHS since Tyler and Katie were little.  It was Ty's favorite movie when he was four.  He used to watch the video every day and play the couch with his drum sticks.

Josie had never seen the movie but she's a big fan of Buddy's.  We have some of his stuff on cd and she loves it.  She thinks his version of Words of Love is better than the Beatles' cover.  Naturally, I wanted her to see the movie so last night we watched it.

She loved the movie but was a bit disturbed by how ugly Gary Busey was.  She kept asking me if Buddy was really that ugly.

"Well, yeah."  I said. "But it doesn't matter how ugly he was; he was Buddy Holly!  He could be as ugly as he wanted and he was still the coolest guy ever.  He had to be the only guy in 1956 who didn't want to be Elvis, 'cause he knew he was even better."

"Was he cooler than this guy?"

"Of course.  He was really Buddy Holly and this guy is only pretending to be Buddy Holly."

Any way, she loved the movie and especially the music but hated the end even though she knew he died.  She said she wanted to see the plane crash and all the grief afterwards.

"No you don't."  I said.  "It's the Buddy Holly story and it ended right there."

She'll love La Bamba.
